Rosenegg Castle , also called Rosenegg Castle , Balme Hohlenegg or Rosenberg Castle , is a medieval hilltop castle at 623 m above sea level. A. on the easternmost foothills of the Schaß, southeast of Bürs in the Bludenz district in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . It was the seat of the Rosenegg rulership from the 13th to the 15th century .
history
Rosenegg Castle was built in the middle of the 13th century by the Counts of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg . The rule was initially part of the County of Sonnenberg .
During the Appenzell War, the castle was destroyed in 1405 by the Walgauer allied with the Appenzell people. It was probably rebuilt and after the transition to Austria in 1418/1420 it was given as an Austrian fief . In 1474 the Rosenegg rulership was combined with the Bludenz rulership , the castle fell into disrepair before 1600.
In the years 1898 to 1900 the keep was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style.
In 1939 another renovation and expansion took place: the neo-Gothic elements were removed again and the original four floors were made five. The tent roof was also erected at that time. The upright rectangular windows were entirely redesigned or broken through in 1939 instead of older light slits that were enlarged in 1898. In addition, a single-storey house was built next to the keep.
Today there are different interpretations of the historical records and fundamentally the opinion is divided as to whether these were two separate complexes or whether they always referred to the same castle complex.

Rosenegg Castle was a small complex consisting essentially of a keep and a surrounding wall . Today the old stock can only be found in the foundation area.
