Frédéric Back , OC , CQ (born April 8, 1924 in Saarbrücken , Saar area , † December 24, 2013 in Montreal ) was a Canadian animator and animation director.

Life

Frédéric Back lived in Montreal, Canada, since 1948. At first he worked as a teacher until he joined the animation department of Radio Canada in 1952 .

In 1981 his film Tout-rien received an Oscar nomination. In 1982 he won the Oscar for best animated short film for his film Crac and in 1988 for the film The Man Who Planted Trees .

In 1989 he was named a Knight of the Ordre national du Québec . The following year he became an officer in the Order of Canada . In 1994 he received another Oscar nomination for Le fleuve aux grandes eaux . In 2000 he was awarded the Canadian Prix ​​Jutra for his life's work .
