Claire Maurier (* 27. March 1929 in Céret as Odette Michelle Suzanne Agramon ) is a French actress .

Life

Character actress Claire Maurier has been in the acting business for over 60 years, making around 45 films and over 50 television shows. The daughter of a French and a native Catalan studied acting at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux at the age of 16. She became known in 1959 as the gruff and cold-hearted mother of the main character in the classic film They Kissed and they beat him by the Nouvelle Vague director François Truffaut . She had other early film appearances in Die Pariserin (1957) with Charles Boyer and in the comedy Alles in Butter (1963) alongside the star comedians Fernandel and Bourvil , in which she played the bigam living wife of the two star comedians. Maurier played a historical role as Ninon de Lenclos in the literary film adaptation of Angélique by Bernard Borderie . From the 1960s, she also played regularly in television series and films, but her cinema appearances became less frequent.

In 1978, Maurier played the role of business woman Simone in the hit comedy A Cage Full of Fools, who had conceived a child with a homosexual man and left it to him to raise. Three years later, she received a César nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her appearance in the film drama The Unrated Son . In the 21st century, she played among others, the role of the cafe owner Suzanne in the romantic comedy Amélie (2001), besides, she was in 2010 as a mother of Gérard Depardieu , the main character who despises her son in the labyrinth of words to see . She was most recently in front of the camera in 2013 for the television series La Famille Katz . In addition to her film and television work, the actress achieved fame through numerous theater roles, mainly in prestigious theaters in Paris .
