Linh Dan Pham (Vietnamese: Phạm Linh Đan, * 1974 in Sàigòn ) is a French - Vietnamese actress .

Life

Linh Dan Pham was born in 1974 in Sàigòn, today's Hồ Chí Minh city . At the age of one she left her home country with her parents and emigrated to France . She spent her youth in the banlieues of Paris , including Bagneux , Clichy , Issy-les-Moulineaux and Sceaux . In 1992 Dan Pham made her acting debut under the direction of Régis Wargniers . In the war drama Indochine, set against the background of the Indochina War , the Vietnamese woman acted as the young Camille , the adopted daughter of the plantation owner Eliane (played by Catherine Deneuve ), who turned her back on luxurious life and played with her mother's lover, a French soldier ( by Vincent Perez ), blows. The forty million DM (approx. 20.45 million euros) expensive large-scale production was highly praised by the critics and received the Oscar for the best foreign language film of the year in 1993 (official count 1992) . Linh Dan Pham was nominated for the César , the most important French film award, for her acting performance as the best young actress , but had to admit defeat to the Frenchwoman Romane Bohringer ( Wilde Nights ).

After the great success of Indochine , Linh Dan Pham starred alongside Nikolai Kinski and F. Murray Abraham in the title role of Monica Teubner's drama Jamila before she gave in to family and cultural pressures and put her acting ambitions on hold. It was not until seven years later that Dan Pham resumed her acting career and began to study and play theater at the renowned Lee Strasberg Institute in New York . Role offers in France did not fail to appear and in 2005 she was given a supporting role as the talented and pedantic pianist Miao-Lin in Jacques Audiard's drama The Wild Beat Of My Heart , in which she played Tom (played by Romain Duris ), who is tingling between a music career and crime takes her wing. The film, a remake of James Toback's Finger - Tender and Brutal from 1978, was a huge hit with critics and audiences. The Wild Beating of My Heart won the British Academy Film Award for the best non-English language production of the year and was honored in eight out of ten categories at the 2006 Césars , including Best Picture and Best Director. Among the winners was Linh Dan Pham, who won the Best Young Actress award thirteen years after her first Indochine nomination . She gave the trophy she won to her parents, who had been against a film career for their daughter.

Also in 2005 followed a supporting role in Frédéric Balekdjian's debut film Les mauvais joueurs , in which Linh Dan Pham plays the beautiful Lu Ann , who works in a Chinese fast food restaurant in Paris and is coveted by the petty criminal Vahé (played by Pascal Elbé ). In preparation for the film, which was awarded the Manfred Salzgeber Prize for the most innovative European production from the Panorama section at the Berlinale 2005 , Linh Dan Pham did an internship in a Chinese fast-food restaurant in Paris' Rue Saint-Denis . After guest appearances in Édouard Molinaro’s television series Les Hommes de coeur and an episode of the German television series Tierärztin Dr. Mertens (both in 2006) she worked again with director Régis Wargniers in 2007. Her film partners include José Garcia , Marie Gillain , Lucas Belvaux and Michel Serrault in the thriller Pars vite et reviens tard , the film adaptation of Fred Vargas ' award-winning detective novel Fliehe Far und Schnell. In the same year Marc Caro's science fiction film Dante 01 followed in which she played the part of Elisa alongside Lambert Wilson and Dominique Pinon . In 2009 she was part of the theater ensemble of Maïwenn Le Besco's tragicomedy Le bal des actrices, along with well-known actresses such as Jeanne Balibar , Julie Depardieu , Charlotte Rampling and Karin Viard .
