He held the Chair of Surgery in Padua , Primary of the Ospedale dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice, President of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (1886–1888), to which he bequeathed his library. In addition to the public clocks already described at Ponte Minich , which he bequeathed to the Venetian population, he gave the municipal administration a mighty clock that still works today and is located in a room next to the council chamber. His will of September 25, 1889, notarial act by the notary Giuseppe Marcocchia, contains in point 14 the provision: “lascio al Comune di Venezia trentamilalire affinchè siano istituti gli orologi elettrici nella città di Venezia per commodo ed utilità dei cittadini” (I bequeath to the city Venice thirty thousand lire to build electric clocks for the convenience and benefit of the city dwellers).
