Maïwenn Le Besco (born April 17, 1976 in Les Lilas , Seine-Saint-Denis Department ) is a French film actress , screenwriter and film director .

family

Her sister is the film actress, screenwriter and director Isild Le Besco , her mother the actress Catherine Belkhodja . Her brother Jowan Le Besco is an actor and cameraman. Like her sister Isild and her brother Jowan, Maïwenn has a Breton first and last name.

Life

Since the early 1980s, Maïwenn played as a child actress in French films, some of which were also seen in Germany. These include Don't Marry Me, Chérie (1981), A Murderous Summer (1983), and The Double (1985).

At the age of 15 she began a love affair with Luc Besson , with whom she lived for some time. Their daughter Shana was born in 1993. The relationship with the director who is twice her age was the inspiration for the film Léon - The Professional (1994), in which she made a small appearance. In Besson's film The Fifth Element (1997) she played the role of the diva; The actual singing, however, came from the opera singer Inva Mula and was only recorded as playback in the film. Shortly afterwards, the couple separated.

Maïwenn is a well-known director. From May 2001 to July 2002 Maïwenn performed her one-person play Le pois chiche - One Maï show twice a week in Paris . In this autobiographical piece she deals with her difficult childhood. In particular, she settles accounts with her mother, who in the 1980s, with the aim of making a child star out of her, forced Maïwenn to do hard castings and also gave her some of the responsibility for her younger siblings.

This theme can also be found in the film I am an actrice (2004), for which Maïwenn wrote and directed the script. The main actresses are herself and her daughter Shana Besson. Mother and daughter play the story of Maïwenn and her mother - shifted by a generation, so to speak.

In 2006 the film Forgive Me was released. Here, too, Maïwenn acted as scriptwriter, director and leading actress in one person. Five years later she received her first invitation to the competition at the Cannes International Film Festival for the directorial work Poliezei (2011), which reports on police life, where she won the Jury Prize and in 2012 the Prix Lumières for best director. At the 2012 César Awards , Poliezei received two awards ( Best Young Actress , Best Editing ) out of 13 nominations. Her film Mein ein, mein alles (original title: Mon Roi ) was nominated for the Golden Palm of the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 .
