Alexandre Aja (* 7. August 1977 in Paris as Alexandre Jouan Arcady ) is a French director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Alexandre Aja is the son of Alexandre Arcady, a French filmmaker, and the film critic Marie Jouan. He is married to the Moroccan filmmaker Laïla Marrakchi .

Film career

actor

As early as 1983 he starred in the film The Big Carnival (Le Grand carnaval) , which was directed by his father. He also worked as an actor in another film by his father in 1992, Judgment Day (Le Grand pardon II) .

Director and screenwriter

Aja became internationally known as the director and screenwriter of the 2003 horror film High Tension (Haute tension) and the remake of Wes Craven's classic The Hills Have Eyes (2006). In March 2012 he was appointed as a director of the comic adaptation Undying Love, and he also performs well in the film adaptation of Joe Hill 's fantasy - novel horn directing.

In 2004, Alexandre Aja was voted one of the 10 best directors by the American magazine "Variety".
