Joseph Hillstrom King (born June 4, 1972 in Hermon , Maine ) is an American writer . His works appear under the pseudonym Joe Hill .

life and work

Joseph Hillstrom King, son of Stephen and Tabitha King , grew up as the middle of three children with his siblings Owen King and Naomi in Bangor . His brother Owen is also a successful writer.

In 1995 he graduated from Vassar College and then devoted himself to writing. In 1997 his first short story The Lady Rests was published. In order not to be immediately associated with his famous father, he publishes his works under the pseudonym Joe Hill. It wasn't until 2006 that the secret of his true identity was revealed.

He has already received several awards for his short stories , which have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies . He received the Ray Bradbury Fellowship and, in 2006, the Bram Stoker Award , the British Fantasy Award and the World Fantasy Award for his short story collection 20th Century Ghosts. In 2007, Heart-Shaped Box (German: Blind ) was his first novel, for which he received the Bram Stoker Award, the Locus Award and the International Thriller Award for the best first novel. Other novels followed, including 2010 Horns (German: Teufelszeug ) and 2013 NOS4A2 (German: Christmasland ). Together with his father he wrote in 2012 the short story Throttle (German: full throttle ) and in the Tall Grass ( in tall grass ), both in the published in October 2019 short story collection Full Throttle are united.

In 2013, Once Upon a Dead Gull, a novel appeared together with Janna Hill .

Hill was married for the second time in May 2018 and lives in New Hampshire . He has three children from his first marriage. The difficult phase in his life towards the end of his first marriage inspired him to his novel Horns , Hill said in an interview with the British daily newspaper The Telegraph.

Adaptations

Devil was a horror - drama Horn in 2013 with Daniel Radcliffe filmed. In 2019, the US broadcaster AMC released a series adaptation of the novel NOS4A2 .

The streaming provider Netflix confirmed in July 2018 that a series for the comic book series Locke & Key had been commissioned and a season with 10 episodes was to be released. This is - after 2011 at FOX and 2018 at Hulu - the third attempt to produce a series from this template. On February 7, 2020, the series began on Netflix.

The short story in the tall grass was by Vincenzo Natali reworked into a feature film that was released in September 2019 and was included in the program of Netflix in October of 2019.
