Locke & Key is a US Mystery - Horror television series, the 2020 Netflix was posted on the same comics of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez is based.

In March 2020, Netflix ordered a second season.

The series is about the three Locke siblings Tyler, Kinsey and Bode, who, after witnessing the murder of their father , move with their mother from Seattle to Key House , the ancestral home of the Locke family in Massachusetts. You will gradually find several magic keys there that will give you different abilities and even open a door to another world. Bode discovers a woman named Dodge in the well house of the Key House who is after the keys and threatens the children in order to get them.

Joe Hill , author of the comic book, and her illustrator Gabriel Rodriguez made a cameo as paramedics in the final episode. Tom Savini , famous horror film special effects artist who is honored in the series by Kinsey's friends, the "Savini Gang," has a cameo as a hardware store salesman in the second episode.

Locke & Key is based on the comic book series of the same name by Joe Hill , which was published by IDW Publishing from 2008 to 2013 .

History of the film adaptation

Dimension Films was the first to obtain the filming rights in February 2008, but these were transferred to Dreamworks Television in February 2010 . Dreamworks produced a pilot episode of a series for 20th Century Fox Television from October 2010 to February 2011 , which was shown at San Diego Comic-Con International . In May 2011 Fox announced that the further series would not be implemented.

In 2014, a film trilogy was announced at Comic-Con, which Joe Hill said in October 2015 would no longer be made. In 2016 he announced that he was writing a pilot episode of a series for IDW Entertainment. In April 2017, Hulu ordered a pilot episode. In March 2018, it was announced that Hulu was giving up the project and trying to sell it to other providers, and on July 25th that Netflix was ordering a series of 10 episodes.

Production of the series

With the exception of Jackson Robert Scott, who already starred in the pilot for Hulu Bode, the cast has been re-cast for the Netflix series. The new main line-up was announced from December 2018 to February 2019.

For the series, Joe Hill renamed the Lovecraft location Matheson in honor of Richard Matheson . Lunenburg in Nova Scotia served as the filming location for Matheson ; the key house was set up and filmed at CineSpace Film Studios . Filming in Toronto took place from February to July 2019.

Even before the extension, the second season was written.

reception

On Rotten Tomatoes , the first season of the series was evaluated with 73% positive ratings based on 40 reviews. On Metacritic , the series was evaluated based on 20 reviews with a Metascore of 62%.

Joachime Hentschel from Spiegel said the series was "[w] ie Pokémon Go with keys". He criticizes that “it takes an indescribably long time” “until 'Locke & Key' becomes even a little bit exciting. [...] Even the search for keys in the haunted house is staged , with big children's eyes and typical curiosity music, more in the style of Edeka Christmas spots ”. He recommends holding out “[b] is episode eight”, because “then it will be really good”.

Andreas Fischer from the Mittelbayerische Zeitung comes to the conclusion that Locke & Key is "[r] asant, clever, creepy, exciting: 'Locke & Key' has everything you could want from a mystery series".
