Meredith Averill (born March 20, 1982 in Pottsville , Pennsylvania ) is an American screenwriter and television producer . She was the creator and co- showrunner of the short-lived television series Star-Crossed .

Life

Meredith Averill grew up in Pottsville in the US state of Pennsylvania . Even when she was young, she wanted to become an author. As a student at Pottsville Area High School , she wrote for the school newspaper Tide Lines . Upon completion of high school Averill moved to New York and attended from 2000, the New York University for film studies to study. Soon after, she changed her major and studied screenwriting. After graduating in 2004, she became interested in television series and wrote several scripts without commission, so-called "spec scripts". This was followed by a pilot spec, with which she was accepted into the 2007 screenwriting program Writers On The Verge in Los Angeles .

Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec then hired Averill as a screenwriter, wrote scripts for the mini-series Samurai Girl (2008) and worked in the writing room for the US television series Life on Mars (2008-2009) and the mystery series Happy Town (2010). From 2010 to 2013 she wrote in the writer room on the CBS television series Good Wife . With the third season of the series (2011) she was first run as a producer. In 2013, Averill developed the TV series Star-Crossed for The CW based on the concept of a Spanish production company , which revolves around a romantic relationship between a human girl and an alien boy who is integrated into a high school with six others of his kind. In May 2013, she received a two-year contract with CBS TV Studios. Meredith Averill was co-showrunner with Adele Lim on the short-lived 13-episode series that aired in 2014. Averill had previously worked with Lim at Life on Mars . Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec were executive producers on the series. After Star-Crossed was dropped , Averill worked on the CW series Jane the Virgin from 2014 to 2015 .

Meredith Averill has been nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award three times: in 2009 with Life on Mars for Best New TV Series and in 2012 and 2014 with Good Wife for Best Drama Series.
