Life on Mars is an American television series that was broadcast on the ABC network from 2008 to 2009 . It is a remake of the British series Life on Mars - Caught in the 70s .

action

After being hit by a car in 2008 while chasing a murderer who kidnapped Tyler's girlfriend Maya Daniels, New York police officer Sam Tyler suddenly woke up in 1973. There he worked as a police officer in the 125th precinct by Lieutenant Gene Hunt. In addition to the daily police work, through which he meets his parents, sees himself as a little boy and meets people whom he will arrest as criminals in the future, he tries to understand what has happened to him. He puts forward various theories according to which he has been in a coma, traveled back in time, been drugged, was abducted by aliens, or the year 2008 just came from his imagination.

In reality, Tyler and the other police officers at the 125th Precinct are astronauts who will fly to Mars in 2035 and will be in deep sleep during the almost two and a half year flight. His identity as a police officer in 2008 is based on intentional neuronal stimulation during sleep; the time jump to 1973 was a mistake caused by a meteorite storm.
