Groupie
The groupie ( English ) is a mostly female fan who devotes his attention to an idol or star , mostly from the field of art , culture or politics , often also in sexual terms. Groupies go beyond what can be described as normal behavior of a fan , but without being considered stalkers .
history
The first groupies came in the mid-1940s, when Frank Sinatra was swarmed around by thousands of screaming teenage female "Bobby Soxers" at public appearances . They became a cultural phenomenon in the 1960s with the advent of pop culture and the sexual revolution . A well-known groupie group were the GTO’s from the late 1960s around Frank Zappa . Pamela Des Barres , who was one of them, later documented this time in her book. It was part usually, is that groupies by the road crew of a star to this "high asleep". Frank Zappa created the derogatory expression crew slut for this in his work Joe's Garage from 1979 (for example: “team slut ”). Dealing with groupies on the part of rock bands and their crews was often determined by devaluation, contempt and sometimes physical violence (often under the influence of drugs), but there were exceptions in which the encounters determined by a power imbalance led to real love relationships.
Groupies in the movie
The 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap satirically targeting, among other things, “groupie life”. The 1999 film Almost Famous with Kate Hudson also takes place in the same milieu. In the 2002 comedy Groupies Forever (original title: The Banger Sisters ) play Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon two aging former groupies. Alan Parker's film The Wall visualizes the possible devaluation and physical violence to a groupie . The films Groupies Don't Stay for Breakfast (2010) and Das wilde Leben (2007), a film about Uschi Obermaier, were released in Germany .
