Monika Dannemann (born June 24, 1945 in Düsseldorf ; † April 5, 1996 in Seaford , East Sussex ) was a German figure skating trainer and the last partner of the famous rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix . She is the author of the biography The Inner World of Jimi Hendrix (1995) and was considered a groupie within the rock music scene .

Life

Dannemann met Hendrix on January 12, 1969 after a concert in Düsseldorf . She was the last person to see Hendrix alive. On September 18, 1970, she found Hendrix in her apartment in the Samarkand Hotel in London , where he had spent the night.

After Jimi Hendrix died, she gave many interviews at her home in Seaford , Sussex . She also visited the Hendrix family in Seattle . In an article in The Independent , writer Mary Braid writes:

"She has always maintained - despite evidence to the contrary - that she had an 18-month relationship and engagement to Hendrix."

In 1976 she met Uli Jon Roth , who was the guitarist of the Scorpions at the time. On the Scorpions LP Taken by Force from 1977 there is the piece We'll Burn the Sky , the text of which Dannemann wrote. She lived with him for 17 years until 1993. She also appeared as a painter, including for Roth record covers.

In 1996, Dannemann was found dead in her exhaust-filled car two days after losing a lawsuit against another former Hendrix friend, Kathy Etchingham . There she was found guilty of contempt of court due to continued defamation. Her death has been classified as a suicide. Roth dedicated his orchestral work Requiem for an Angel (1996–1998) to her.
