The Perc Meets the Hidden Gentleman

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German music duo The Perc Meets the Hidden Gentleman , consisting of Tom "The Perc" Redecker and Emilio "The Hidden Gentleman" Winschetti, was founded in 1987 in Bremen. Winschetti had previously played in the Mythen in Tüten (later Mint Addicts, Mint ), Redecker in the industrial project Cows in Fog and solo as "The Perc". Lothar Gärtner, a mutual friend, founded the label Strange Ways Records for the duo , which with further releases by Wolfsheim , Kastrierte Philosophen , Girls Under Glass and De / Vision became one of the most important German independent labels.

history

The style of the duo changed over time. While avant-garde minimalism prevailed on the debut album "Two Foozles At The Tea Party", the two discovered their preference for acoustic guitars on the second album "This Maid of Delphi" and thus became forerunners of the New Psycho / Stoner Folk.

In 1991, their most successful album, "Lavender", was released, which was also a concept album. Musicians who are friends from Deine Lakaien , Phillip Boa , Strangemen , Lolitas and Fehlfarben support the musicians in the studio.

The album received positive reviews in the print media: "The Perc Meets The Hidden Gentleman with 'Lavender' is enough to have saved Krautrock in the nineties," wrote Detlef Kinsler in the Frankfurter Rundschau. "Music like from another world - a literally unique music", said ME / Sounds, and STERN wrote: "On 'Lavender' Winschetti / Redecker indulge in complex arrangements and evade musical stereotypes." The publication was followed by a one-year tour that also took the duo and their Lavender Orchestra to neighboring countries.

With "Ages" the last studio album of the "most idiosyncratic duo in Germany" (ME / Sounds) was released in 1993. It became the duo's most elaborate album. They got reinforcements from Minne Graw ( Ougenweide ) and Volker Kahrs ( rough cut ), among others .

The duo provided the music for the performance of Peter Turrini's "The Battle of Vienna" at the Stuttgart State Theater in 1995. Then Winschetti and Redecker took an unlimited artistic break, which continues to this day. Winschetti works in the film industry today. Redecker found himself with Volker Kahrs at Taras Bulba and in 1996 founded the Krautrock all-star band The Electric Family. In 2000 he started the label Sireena Records together with Lothar Gärtner .
