Volker Kahrs (born May 8, 1951 in Osterholz-Scharmbeck , † July 20, 2008 in Syke ) was a German pianist, composer and music producer.

Life

He received piano lessons at an early age. After graduating from high school, he studied art and music to become a teacher, but later dropped out.

In 1971 he got to know the Hagen rock group Grobschnitt and became their keyboardist. Until he left in 1982, he had a decisive influence on the classic and neo-progressive style of the group and developed the concept for the LP Rockpommel's Land (1977). The polyrhythmic rock fairy tale, composed mainly by him, already exists in a published version.

His style is essentially characterized by an extremely confident mix of rock, jazz and classical cadences with frequent major / minor changes, altered chords, quarters and ninths, surprising modulations and extremely wide registers. On the LP "Solar Music - Live" his skills can best be heard in harmonic improvisation. Due to the extraordinary level of creativity of his work, he remained unique in the German rock landscape.

After 1982 he devoted himself to the production of relaxation and world music under the stage name Yomano and worked as a psychological consultant. Other stage names he used were Robin Carrs and Roman Park.
