Music and lyrics
Grobschnitt play melodic and mostly calm Progressive Rock with little distorted guitars, symphonic arrangements and harmonic vocals. The atmosphere is romantic and dreamy. The bizarre humor that is typical for Grobschnitt does not come into play here, the album is more influenced by the style and concepts of British progressive rock bands of the time such as Yes or Genesis .
Rockpommel's Land is a concept album that tells of the daydreamer Ernie and his fairytale adventures with the great bird maraboo. You get to Severity Town, where laughter - and much more - is forbidden. In search of the exiled Mr Glee, they arrive at Rockpommel's Land, can free him and the good spirits of Severity Town and thus the city from the evil forces.
reception
The album is often viewed as a high point in the band's work. Udo Gerhard from Babyblauen Seiten would like "a little more energetic parts here and there, [because] the album splashes a bit in places", but for Jochen Rindfrey it is "one of the best rough cut albums" and Andreas Pläschke can "I really recommend it to everyone who likes it symphonic-lyric". Allmusic's Mike DeGagne describes the album as "fine-tuned and well-focused". The music magazine eclipsed took Rockpommel's country on its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
