Mint was a German band that existed from 1984 to 1990 .

history

The founding members met in 1984 at the Werkstatt Odem gallery in Hanover . The band name is derived as an acronym from Mythen in Tüten , a band in which Emilio Winschetti and Rüdiger Klose had previously played. Peter Friedrich Stephan came from the punk jazz group Zatopek . Klose was also active in the 39 Clocks , Exit Out and Neutered Philosophers , and Winschetti founded the duo The Perc Meets the Hidden Gentleman in 1986 together with Tom Redecker .

During their record deal with Constrictor (1986/87) the band, at the request of the label boss Philip Boa, was to give themselves a more international name, which was found in Mint Addicts. After switching to the Vielklang label (Berlin) in 1988, the band continued under the name The Mint. Emilio Winschetti was the only founding member of the last LP, which was recorded live in early 1990 during a GDR tour.

style

The different origins of the musicians from Neue Deutsche Welle , Jazz and Noise combined into one

“Musically enormously competent and versatile German band! The roots / influences of this band are clearly in the seventies: Doors, Can, Captain Beefheart, T. Rex, even King Crimson I can hear as roots. But - do not worry - the MINT ADDICTS do not sound old-fashioned, they process these styles with the late eighties underground, noise pop, new wave / new rock. "

plates

Atonal and melodious, intricate rhythms and danceable, weird solos and hymn-like refrains can be heard on the records. Examples are the titles "Ruby Eyes" (verse in 11/8 time, refrain in 4/4 time), "Lady Luck" (verse in 10/8 time, refrain in 4/4 time) and "8 dark suits “(keyboard in 12/8 time, drums in 2/4 time). Often hypnotic beats develop like in “Cinema”, sometimes combined with an idiosyncratic guitar mood like in “Love Mirror”.

live

During the concert, the pieces were changed through longer, often ecstatic improvisations, for example on a tour through Poland in 1988 (final concert in the Warsaw Palace of Culture, with Die Tödliche Doris , The Wolfgang Press and David Thomas , among others ) and in 1989 immediately after the fall of the Berlin Wall through the GDR.
