Peter Friedrich Stephan

Peter Friedrich Stephan (born August 9, 1959 ) is a German designer and author . Since 1997 he has been Professor of Theory and Design of Hypermedia at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne .

Life

In 1975 Stephan took part in Joe Viera's jazz workshops at the Hanover University of Music and Theater. From 1979 he began studying design at the Berlin University of the Arts , after which he studied music from 1980 to 1983 at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock (New York) with Karl Berger and from 1983 to 1984 at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . 1982–1984 founder, keyboardist and tenor saxophonist of the punk jazz band Zatopek , 1984–1989 keyboardist with the Noise / Wave Band Mint , and 1986 for a short time with Element of Crime . 1984–1989 studied design again in Berlin with Hans Roericht and participated in New German Design.

Stephan has been working as an author, designer, producer and consultant for media productions in the field of corporate communications since 1983. He also holds teaching positions at the University of the Arts in Berlin , the University of St. Gallen and the International School of New Media in Lübeck.

From 1994 to 1997, Stephan and Mihai Nadin re-established the subject “Computational Design” at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . Between 1999 and 2005 he was a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Society for Semiotics . From 2003 to 2005 Stephan was a co-founder and co-managing director of the Knowledge Media Design forum , which is now a specialist group in the German Society for Computer Science.

Stephan is one of the co-founders of knowledge design in Germany and is involved in the international development of "cognitive design". Since 2006 he has been running the Raumstaben research project together with Claudius Lazzeroni from the Folkwang University in Essen. In 2008 Stephan is co-organizer of the Cognitive Design workshop in Lübeck.
