Pamela Des Barres (* 9. September 1948 in Reseda, Los Angeles , California as Pamela Ann Miller ), also known as Miss Pamela , is an American author and former groupie . She has published her memories and experiences in several books.

biography

As a young teenager, Pamela Ann Miller adored the Beatles and the Rolling Stones , especially Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger . Through her school friend Victor Hayden, she met Don Van Vliet, who later became known as Captain Beefheart . Through Van Vliet, she came into contact with the Rolling Stones and the rock scene on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. After graduating from high school in 1966, she looked for jobs in the musician community; Among other things, she was the nanny for Frank Zappa , who lived with his family in Laurel Canyon .

Groupie

Rock musicians she's had affairs with include Jim Morrison , Mick Jagger , Jimmy Page , Keith Moon , Nick St. Nicholas , Noel Redding , Chris Hillman , Gram Parsons and Waylon Jennings , as well as actors like Brandon deWilde, Michael Richards and Don Johnson .

In Zappa's house, she and friends created an extravagant style of clothing; together they practiced dance steps and called themselves the "Laurel Canyon Ballet Company". Tiny Tim used to address the girls as "Miss" and by first name, so the nickname was "Miss Pamela" - the other girls were accordingly "Miss Christine", "Miss Lucy" and so on. Zappa urged the group to write and record songs and suggested the name GTOs : "Girls Together Outrageously". Their only album, Permanent Damage , was released in 1969, and the single Circular Circulation / Mercy's Tune was already on the market beforehand . The GTOs, one of the first all-female rock groups , also performed with Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention .

Pamela Miller began working as an actress in the early 1970s. She can be seen in a number of films, including Zappa's 200 Motels (1970). In 1974 she had a role in the soap opera Search for Tomorrow .

family

Pamela Miller married the singer and actor Michael Des Barres in 1977 . They have a son, Nicholas Dean Des Barres. The marriage was divorced in 1991.

Publications

Pamela Des Barres wrote two autobiographical books about her time as a groupie, I'm with the Band (1987) and Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up (1993), as well as two other books about the music business, Rock Bottom: Dark Moments in Music Babylon and Let's Spend the Night Together: Backstage Secrets of Rock Muses and Supergroupies (2007). She also writes articles for online and print media.
