Location of the Scholtz barracks in Schleswig-Holstein |
The Scholtz barracks was a barracks of the Bundeswehr in Neumünster , Schleswig-Holstein .
history
The Scholtz barracks was built as part of the armament of the Wehrmacht - at that time still on the outskirts of Neumünster - and inaugurated on October 10, 1937. It got its name from General Friedrich von Scholtz . First the 66th Artillery Regiment moved in . During the Second World War , replacement units were housed in the barracks. After the Second World War, US and Polish units moved into the barracks, which was handed over to the German Armed Forces in 1957. The following units were based here until the barracks were abandoned by the Bundeswehr:
- 1957–1983: Panzer Battalion 184
- 1983–1997: Supply Battalion 6
Since 1997 there has been a reception center for emigrants and asylum seekers of the Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Foreigners Affairs with 500 places in the northern part of the barracks (accommodation and farm building). The southern part (technical area, including vehicle hangars) is for sale by the city of Neumünster.
In the former medical bunker, which had space for 550 people, tours have been offered since 2009.
The southern part of the barracks was demolished in summer 2019 to make way for housing projects.
