Michael Des Barres
Michael Des Barres (born January 24, 1948 in London ) is a British actor and singer .
Career
Des Barres was born the son of Marquis Philip Des Barres and grew up in Surrey . He attended the Corona Academy drama school in London. After divorcing his first wife, he married actress and writer Pamela Des Barres in 1977 . She wrote extensively about their relationship in her books Take my heart (Ullstein, 1995) and Light my fire (Ullstein, 1989). The couple divorced in 1991.
As a musician
Des Barres led the bands Silverhead and Detective in the 1970s and Checkered Past in the early 1980s. With none of these bands he achieved greater success, even the prominent line-up of Checkered Past (including Steve Jones and Clem Burke ) could not change that. His first solo album under the title I'm Only Human was made in 1980; a second, Somebody Up There Likes Me , appeared in 1986. He was selected as the new lead singer of the band Power Station in 1985 , after Robert Palmer left them shortly before the start of the first tour. Through the mediation of Don Johnson , Power Station got a guest appearance in this cast on an episode of Miami Vice . After the tour ended, which also included an appearance at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia , Power Station broke up.
Des Barres has worked as a composer for several Hollywood films, including Police Academy 2 and Nine and a Half Weeks . For the title track, he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in the worst song category.
As an actor
Des Barre's acting career began in England in the mid-1960s with guest roles on television series. In 1967 he made his movie debut in the film version of To Sir, With Love . From the late 1970s, he resumed his acting career in the United States . Since then he has had regular guest roles in American television series such as Detective Rockford , 21 Jump Street and Nash Bridges . In the series MacGyver he had the recurring role of the hit man Murdoc, MacGyver's archenemy. He also had another recurring role in Melrose Place .
