The Finder is an American crime series by Hart Hanson and was started by a backdoor pilot as an offshoot of the series Bones, which was also broadcast on Fox . The plot is loosely based on the book series The Locator by Richard Greener .

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan , who played Leo Knox, a former lawyer and best friend of the main character Walter Sherman, made his last television appearance on the series before he died of a heart attack on September 3, 2012 . The series was discontinued after only one season with 13 episodes. It was first broadcast in the USA on January 12, 2012. From February to May 2013, the series was shown on the German broadcaster kabel eins .

After severe head injuries from a bomb explosion, the Iraq war veteran Walter Sherman is honored from his military service. The damage to the brain causes changes in consciousness that make him paranoid , but also get the ability to recognize complex relationships and thus "find" things.

In the course of the sixth season of the series Bones - The Bone Hunter the idea came up to develop a spin-off series for Bones . So a backdoor episode was devised for the sixth season in which a new character was to be introduced, around whom the new series would revolve. So began filming the Bones episode The Finder (season 6, episode 19) in January 2011. It was broadcast in April 2011, while Fox gave the series the green light a month later and ordered thirteen episodes for the first season. It premiered on January 12, 2012, following a new Bones episode on Fox . Another six episodes were broadcast from January 19 to March 8, 2012, each after the American Idol talent show. In early March 2012, the series was then postponed to Friday, where the remaining six episodes were broadcast until May 11, 2012. Fox discontinued the series two days earlier.

Germany

ProSiebenSat.1 Media has secured the broadcasting rights for Germany and decided to broadcast the series on Kabel eins . There the broadcast began on February 8th and ended on May 10th, 2013.

The series has also been available on the VoD provider Netflix since January 2017 .
