history

Moated castle Hueb after an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674

Hueb Castle was first mentioned in 1356 as a Volkensdorff fief. This fiefdom was given to the Steyr city judge Eberhard Mühlwanger. The brothers Siegmund and Heinrich Prueschenk are later named as feudal lords. In 1525 Hueb came into the possession of the Sproll family. In 1557, the citizens of Steyr were named Daniel Luger as the owner. Under the son of Urban Johann Steurer, who owned Hueb around 1588, there was a peasant revolt due to high taxes, in which the neighboring estates of Eggendorf and Leompach were also attacked.

Other owners are: Klaudius Philipp Pröller von Ladendorf (1608), Johann Friedrich Mörk von Gneisenau (1650), Schlierbach Monastery , Ehrenreich von Schallenberg, who united Hueb with Eggendorf . Under Wolf Spiller von Mitterberg (1696–1709) the castle was rebuilt around 1700 after severe fire damage.

In 1956 the castle was bought by the Wiesmayer family, who previously ran the local tavern in Weitersdorf , and an inn was also opened here. In 1961 it came into the possession of the Wimmer family. Today the castle is privately owned by Erwin Machgraber, antique dealer from Marchtrenk , who is trying to renovate it in keeping with the style.

description

The castle is surrounded by a pond on all four sides. A stone bridge with a statue of Nepomuk leads to the castle .

A cantilevered corner tower can be seen at one corner. The back is surmounted by a mighty tower with an onion roof. There are open arcades with granite columns on both the ground floor and the first floor. To the left of the tower is an open terrace with a granite balustrade on the first floor . A number of stone figures (including Mary as Queen of Heaven with Jesus and angels, baroque figures, lions) and other monuments have been erected in the surrounding park.

The castle looks uninhabited and in need of renovation.
