Life

Tabitha King was born in Maine in 1949 as one of eight children . She was the daughter of a shopkeeper and was raised Catholic. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Maine . In 1969, she met Stephen King at a picnic in her senior year of college. They worked together in the Fogler Campus Library, fell in love and were married in 1971 in a Catholic church in Old Town. Tabitha King graduated with a degree in history in May of that year. Not finding a job straight away, she first worked at Dunkin 'Donuts in Bangor . In 1971 their first child, Naomi Rachel King, was born. Because Stephen and Tabitha King did not earn enough money, the family lived in a trailer. Stephen King was writing his stories at night and on weekends at the time.

On June 3, 1972, their second child, Joseph Hillstrom King , was born. Although Stephen King had not yet published a single book, his wife encouraged him to keep writing. In March / April 1973 Stephen King sold his first book, Carrie . He had previously discarded the first written pages of the manuscript, so that they ended up in the trash. Tabitha King discovered this by chance and encouraged her husband to keep writing as she liked the script. After the success of "Carrie", Tabitha and her family moved into a rented apartment. In April 1977 their third child, Owen Phillip King , was born. Three years later appeared with Small World (dt. The dollhouse ) Tabitha King's first book. By 2008 she wrote a total of eight books, seven of which were translated into German.

In 1991, Tabitha King was threatened at her home by a fan of her husband's. She managed to escape and notify the police. After the incident, the Kings had their house tightened. They've moved since they got married, but in the end the Kings have always been drawn to Maine.

Social engagement (selection)

In 1986, Tabitha King and her husband founded The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation , a non-profit organization that operates primarily in the region around King's hometown.

In late 1989, the King couple donated a large sum of money to the Milton Academy in Massachusetts for the arts and music center.

In Tabitha King's hometown, the Kings donated money for a new library extension. The extension was then called the Tabitha Spruce King Wing .
