action

Ten years ago, Antoine Sforza moved from a small village in Provence where his parents ran a small mom and pop shop to the city of Lyon . He never lasts long in a job, still lives as if he had just moved into the apartment and secretly loves his neighbor Claire. He makes his living as a waiter, but is often late, so that the boss is dissatisfied with him. One day he learns that his father has had a heart attack. He goes to the hospital but only speaks to his mother and brother François. The relationship within the family is tense. François stayed in his parents' village, where he runs a barber shop. He and his wife have started building a house outside the village. He does not tell his parents that his wife left him a few months ago.

Since father Sforza has to stay in the hospital for a long time, mother asks Antoine to help out in the shop during this time. At first Antoine refuses, but then decides to accept the offer, as he is paid by the family like an employee. He is traveling to Provence with Claire, who wants to quietly prepare for her high school diploma. Claire is already 26, but is planning to catch up on her Abitur so that she can then start studying in Spain. Antoine has the task of driving the food minibus through the remote mountain villages and selling goods on site. The first tour goes badly, so he does not manage to respond to the different mentalities of the buyers, does not enter into agreements that his father has made with certain customers for years and gives many customers the impression that he is a rude man. Old Lucienne in particular is outraged by Antoine's appearance, especially since he cannot fulfill many of her special requests. When Antoine returns to his parents' shop, he would like to give up the hobby. Only Claire shows him how he can better deal with customers the next day when they go out together. In the end, both paint the car in bright colors and the customers like the new look.

One day Claire gives Antoine an envelope with her mock exam for the Abitur, which he is supposed to hand over to the post office. However, he throws the envelope away in the open, where a villager finds it and takes it to the Sforzas store. Claire is outraged. When Antoine explains to her that he doesn't want her to go to Spain, she travels back to Lyon. Another reason was the increasingly bad climate in the family, as father Sforza returned to the village prematurely from rehab. He finds everything his son does wrong, constantly criticizes his wife and overworks himself despite warnings from the doctors. Only when he collapses again does he give in and allow himself more rest. Antoine can no longer stand the mood in the family and moves into a house in the wilderness that belongs to Lucienne. He had owed his mother, which he wants to work off. Then he wants to go back to town and never come back. When driving out, he sees his brother's car parked on a path to the river. At the last second he can pull François, who wanted to kill himself, out of the water. François comes to the hospital. Only now does the family learn that his wife has abandoned him, who in turn is expecting a child from another man. She has cheated on François for several years. Antoine makes him think that he did not realize that his brother is bad - because they never talked to each other. He is now reconciled with Claire, who is returning to Provence. She was accepted at the Spanish university, but has two months before that. Father Sforza suggests to Antoine that he could take over the shop, since he would step down from the business in the autumn. Antoine doesn't know whether to accept the offer. After a while he brings his friend Hassan into the shop, who takes care of business in the village. He himself continues to deliver goods while his parents go on vacation. Antoine is now enjoying his work with Claire.

criticism

For the film service , The Flying Dealer was a "summer comedy with fascinating landscape shots, which describes a return to the real roots with convincing actors and conjures up the beauties of simple life without a glorifying glance."

Cinema felt the film was “a bit too idyllic. But its almost documentary accuracy leaves no room for kitsch. Conclusion: cheerful, melancholy portrait of a young man who is learning to appreciate the joys of country life ”.

Awards

Nicolas Cazalé was nominated for a César in the category Best Young Actor for his role as Antoine Sforza in 2008 .
