Anna Gavalda (born December 9, 1970 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French writer and journalist . The total circulation of her books is around five million in France alone.

life and career

Anna Gavalda grew up in the country with three siblings. She studied literature in Paris and became famous with stories entitled I wish that someone is waiting for me somewhere in the small publisher Le Dilettante in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. After the resounding success of these stories, for which she received the Grand Prix RTL-Lire in 2000, the mother of two gave up her job as a French teacher in a private school.

Her first novel I have loved her has an autobiographical reference: Chloé, who is abandoned by her husband with her two children, spends a few days with her father-in-law in his country house. He tries to comfort her by telling her about a long-time love affair of his own. The novel was filmed in 2009 with Daniel Auteuil . Her second novel Together we are less alone became a bestseller in France. It describes the coexistence of four completely different people in one apartment. This novel was made into a film with Audrey Tautou .

Her third novel, La consolante , was published on March 11, 2008 by “Le Dilettante” and immediately topped the Amazon France bestseller list . Last Gavalda wrote on the initiative of the French book club France Loisirs with other users on the supposedly first world Facebook - Roman .

Anna Gavalda now writes for Elle magazine and lives with her two children on a farm in Melun near Paris. She doesn't read the newspaper, doesn't listen to the radio, and doesn't own a television.
