Dino Risi
Dino Risi (born December 23, 1916 in Milan , † June 7, 2008 in Rome ) was an Italian film director and screenwriter .
Risi is considered one of the old masters of the Commedia all'italiana . He worked with great actors - including Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni - and gave them numerous opportunities for iconic appearances. The scent of women with Vittorio Gassman (later American remake under the same title The scent of women ) gained particular fame .
Life
After completing a medical degree, training as a psychiatrist and working as a newspaper columnist in 1940, Risi met Alberto Lattuada , who offered him a position as assistant director for the film Piccolo mondo antico . During the further course of the war he stayed in Switzerland, where he took film courses with Jacques Feyder in Geneva . After the war ended and back in Italy, Risi made short films that were shown at prestigious festivals in Venice and Brussels. In 1951 he made his feature film debut Vacanze col gangster after a few scripts . In the following years he directed successful comedies for Titanus Film , which processed the influences of neorealism and provided dramatic situations with comical-sentimental aspects (which was also referred to as "pink neorealism"). 1961 is considered the year of birth of the Commedia all'italiana because of Risis Una vita difficile . His subsequent works also show their inherent comedy, below which criticism and self-criticism are hidden, formulated sarcastically and ironically. In the 1970s, Risi attempted to weave clear references to the present to current fabrics; his films were consistently successful until 1978. Alberto Gallitti was a frequent film editor . The later work is bulkier and also enriched with television works.
Risi lived in a suite of a well-known Roman hotel since he left his wife Claudia. He published his autobiography in 2004 under the name I miei mostri . His sons Marco and Claudio are also directors. His two brothers Fernando and Nelo also work as a cameraman or as a director and screenwriter in the film industry.
Awards
Risi's film Grandmother Sabella won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in 1957 . The very successful film In Love with Sharp Curves received the award for best director at the 1963 Mar del Plata Film Festival in Argentina. At the Venice International Film Festival in 2002 he was awarded the Honorary Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
