Tausendschönchen (subtitle: no fairy tale ; OT: Sedmikrásky ) is an experimental fictional film by the Czech director Věra Chytilová . It was shot in 1966 and is a major work in the Czech New Wave of the 1960s.

In loosely connected scenes , the film tells of the moral depravity of the world, portrayed in the actions of the two main female characters Marie 1 and Marie 2. The anarchist girls not only ruin their environment in a highly entertaining way, but ultimately also themselves.

The film was banned after the breakdown of the Prague Spring .

A German first release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc was released by the DVD label Bildstören on July 27, 2012 .

Reviews

“A film that exemplarily questions reality and itself as reality. The only certainty of the two heroines is the appearance (...) You don't even find out whether they are sisters or friends and whether they are normal or lesbian. Mostly you can see them eating - until their maddened feeding turns into an orgy of destruction and they roll around in cakes and bathe in whiskey. The film image as a mirror of reality also breaks apart. What remains are questionable patterns to which all language has been flattened - word carpet, wallpaper of symbols. At the edge, the picture resembles a totally confused puzzle game - an appeal to the viewer to play with the film he is seeing. "

“An allegorical didactic piece in the style of a grotesquely bizarre comedy, which confronts in a surrealistly inspired, virtuoso manner with destruction as a liberating and dangerous force at the same time. An equally entertaining and profound fantasy of timeless fascination. "

“Cheeky and burlesque film about two girls, their hunger for adventure, their lust for food and their aimless rebellion. The joy of playing, gag and destroying cinematic structures is paired with sometimes bold color experiments, but at the same time it hides the serious aspects of the film. This second feature film by the Czech director Vera Chytilová is highly recommended for lovers of radical modern experiments. "
