Věra Chytilová
Věra Chytilová (born February 2, 1929 in Ostrava , Czechoslovakia , † March 12, 2014 in Prague ) was a Czech film director and screenwriter . She is considered an important representative of the “ New Wave ” of Czechoslovak film in the 1960s.
life and career
Věra Chytilová began studying philosophy and architecture in Brno. However, she broke this off and from 1953 worked at the Barrandov Studio in Prague, among other things as an assistant director. Eventually she went to the Prague Film School ( FAMU ), where she studied from 1957 to 1962 in the directing class of Otakar Vávra . It was there that she met Miloš Forman .
He made several study films Dům na Ořechovce (1959), Pan Ká (1960), Zelená ulice (1960) and Ž urnál FAMU (1961). The film Strop / The Blanket (1961) was made for her thesis .
With her debut as a director in the early 1960s, she is considered an important representative of the “ New Wave ” in Czechoslovakia. Chytilová's films dealt with issues attributed to feminism , although she did not describe herself as a feminist. She was banned from working between 1969 and 1975.
