from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1987 Berlin International Film Festival took place from February 20 to March 3, 1987 .

The Berlinale was all about glasnost . The policy of Mikhail Gorbachev made it the movies that were previously deposited in the so-called poison cupboard and were not allowed to be shown in Berlin a first international forum found. Elem Klimov's farewell to Matjora was shown in a special performance. Gleb Panfilow's 1979 film The Theme even ran in the competition and eventually won the Golden Bear . So-called Soviet "safe films" were shown in all sections of the Berlinale.
