Gleb Anatoljewitsch Panfilow ( Russian Глеб Анатольевич Панфилов ; born May 21, 1934 in Magnitogorsk , Soviet Union ) is a Russian film director.

Life

Panfilow had attended the Polytechnic Institute of the Urals until 1957 and then began to work as a chemist. As early as 1958 he joined an amateur film club in Sverdlovsk and made his debut as a director that same year. Panfilow shot short documentaries and was hired as a screenwriter and director by the local television station. Between 1960 and 1963 he attended camera courses at Moscow's state film school WGIK and trained as a screenwriter and director at Goskino until 1966 .

In 1967 Panfilow's first full-length, professional cinema film was made: the ideologically consistent but convincing civil war drama Im Feuer ist kein Ford . “Panfilov's best works gave interesting insights into everyday Soviet life from a wide variety of life and professional perspectives.” These productions were mainly based on the psychological performance of the later Panfilov's wife Inna Tschurikowa .

After receiving the system-critical work The Topic Problems with Censorship - the 1979 film was awarded the Golden Bear in Berlin in March 1987 - Panfilow concentrated on less intrusive topics and staged, among other things, two adaptations of Gorky models ( Wassa Schelesnowa and The Mother ).
