María Félix
María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña (born April 8, 1914 in Álamos , Sonora , † April 8, 2002 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican film actress. Because of her high reputation, she was called La Doña , especially in her later years . Along with Dolores del Río, she is considered to be the “most beautiful face in Mexican film”.
Life
In Guadalajara she was elected Carnival Queen. In the late 1930s she went to Mexico City, where she was discovered for the film by Fernando Palacio . She made her film debut in 1942 in El peñón de las ánimas by Miguel Zacarías . She became the star of Latin American film in the 1940s and has been portrayed by Jean Cocteau , Diego Rivera, and Leonora Carrington . She shot with well-known Mexican directors such as Emilio Fernández , Julio Bracho , Luis Buñuel (then a Mexican citizen) and Fernando de Fuentes as well as abroad with Jean Renoir, among others . Her role type was the image of femme fatale , which she was able to expand to include strong female personalities at the end of the 1950s.
In 1986 she was the first recipient of the Mexican Ariel de Oro Film Prize for her life's work .
María Félix was married five times, including the singer and actor Jorge Negrete , the composer and singer Agustín Lara and the singer Raúl Prado . Lara wrote the song María Bonita for her . She died of heart failure on her 88th birthday.
