Miguel Zacarías

Miguel Zacarías Nogaim (born March 19, 1905 in Mexico City , † April 20, 2006 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican film director, producer and screenwriter. He is one of the most influential film personalities of the "golden era of Mexican film ".

biography

Miguel Zacarías was born the son of Lebanese immigrants. In the early 1930s he stayed briefly in the United States, where he learned the film trade. His debut film as a writer, director and producer was Sobre las olas (1933). His most successful works were Soledad (1947), El dolor de los hijos (1949) and Juana Gallo (Eng. The damned of the Rio Grande , 1961). He was active until the 1980s.

Under Zacarías' direction, María Félix , Jorge Negrete , Pedro Armendáriz , Cantinflas and Marga López became stars of Mexican cinema.

In 1993, 50 years after starting his film work, he received the Mexican Ariel de Oro Film Award in recognition of his contribution to film in Mexico.

Zacarías died of heart failure at the age of 101.
