The Bees is a 1978 Mexican animal horror film directed by Alfredo Zacarías .

action

Dr. Miller tries to tame African killer bees , known as devil bees , which are known for their aggressiveness, and use them as livestock . The following experiment fails and Dr. Miller and his son are killed by the bees. Only his wife survived the incident and managed to get a few copies to Dr. Bringing Hummel to the laboratory in the USA .

Soon there will be more deaths from the bees. The insects develop immunity to insect venom. One wants to prevent the reproduction with a sexual scent of the bees. The first successes are deceptive, because the new breed of bees turns out to be as intelligent as humans. When the bees understand that humans want to exterminate them, they decide to destroy humanity.

The bees develop a language with which they are able to communicate with humans. They provide an ultimatum: Whoever manages to win their grace may stay alive. Only one group of researchers are declaring war on the bees.

criticism

"The killer bees are buzzing ..."

"Last class scary and horror film."

The film has a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes .

The film effects are said to be simple and ineffective. The swarm of killer bees is compared with gas or fog clouds. There are shocking moments of horror because the killer bees also attack babies. The logic decreases significantly with increasing film duration and ends in a jumble. The German synchronization is criticized.

background

The film premiered in October 1978 at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya . In 1985 it was published in the FRG . The last name of the scientist Dr. Sigmund Hummel is no accident. The German word for bumblebees , which belong to the real bees , was used specifically .
