action

The Archangel Gabriel appears to the Virgin Mary and announces that she will give birth to a son whom she should name Jesus. A census takes place under governor Publius Sulpicius Quirinius , so that the pregnant Mary and her husband, the carpenter Joseph of Nazareth , set off for Bethlehem to be entered on the tax lists. On the way you see the star of Bethlehem , which also shows Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, three kings from the Orient , the way.

Arrived in Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph find accommodation in a stable as there is no more space in the hostel. There, Mary gives birth to her firstborn son, Jesus. Shortly afterwards, an angel announces the miracle that has just taken place to the shepherds in the fields. These come straight to the crib to pay homage to the newborn.

A little later, Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar also arrive. However, having lost the star, they ask King Herod where the newborn King of the Jews, the Messiah, is. Herod instructs the three wise men from the east to look for the child so that he can worship him too.

When Jesus was eight days old, Mary and Joseph went with him to the temple to have him circumcised . There the prophets Simeon and Hannah recognize the promised Messiah in the newborn baby.

Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar find the newborn Jesus in the stable in the manger, worship him and bring gold, frankincense and myrrh as gifts. They predict that his weapons will be the word and love and that he will die on the cross . The three wise men are commanded in a dream not to return to Herod, so that they immediately begin their journey home. Herod becomes more and more restless as time goes on. The animal sacrifice carried out on his command turns out to be an unfavorable omen for him.

Jesus grows up to be a toddler and becomes friends with John , the son of Mary's relative Elizabeth . He observes everyday life under the Roman occupation with great interest and performs the first miracles when, for example, he extends a piece of wood that his father needs for processing. He astonishes the Roman soldier Claudio when, shortly before a rain shower, he bends flowers to one side in a meadow, stops the rain shower and lets the flowers bloom again without touching them. When Claudio cuts off the heads of the flowers, they are healed by Jesus; a little later, Jesus lets water flow from his hands to quench Claudio's thirst.

Meanwhile, in order to get the prophesied king out of the way, the still restless Herod orders the killing of all male children up to the age of three . The order is to be carried out during a festival for children. When Mary and Jesus go to the feast, an angel instructs Joseph to flee with both of them because they are in danger. When Maria and Jesus are stopped by Claudio on their flight, he is stung in the eyes by a wasp. Joseph and Maria flee with Jesus and are controlled by Claudio, but instead of the suspected child, Maria has a bouquet of flowers in her arms. At the centurion's command, Claudio rides after the family into the desert. In the desert, Jesus feeds a wandering crowd by bending a palm tree with his strength so that the people can reach the dates. Claudio tracks down Jesus with Mary and Joseph in a cave and wants to kill Jesus, but pauses when he remembers his encounters with Jesus and his family.
