action

Jimmy Grimble (Lewis McKenzie) is a pushover and outsider at his school. Even in the football team at his school he does not get beyond the role of a substitute and is teased and harassed by his teammates. When two other boys tried to beat him up one evening, he found refuge with an old woman named Alice Brewer ( Jane Laportaire ) while fleeing from them . She gives him a pair of old, magical soccer shoes. With the help of these shoes he gains more and more self-confidence and gives everything to show his playful talent. His trainer Eric Wirrel ( Robert Carlyle ) also notices how Grimble is getting more and more out of himself. Grimble becomes a solid pillar of his team and is increasingly gaining the respect of his teammates and those around him. In the end, he leads his team into the finals of the school cup.
