Moritz de Hadeln (born December 21, 1940 in Exeter , England ) is or was director of various film festivals.

Moritz de Hadeln is the grandson of the German art historian Detlev von Hadeln , who lived in Florence . His father was his adoptive son Harry Hudson von Hadeln (1907-1970), who worked there as an art publisher. He grew up in Florence and then studied physics and chemistry at the Sorbonne in Paris and worked as a photographer.

De Hadeln founded the Nyon documentary film festival in 1969 with his wife Erika de Hadeln (1941–2018) . He was from 1972 to 1977 director of the International Film Festival of Locarno and 1980-2001 of the Berlin International Film Festival and two years as Director of the International Venice Film Festival . In 2005 he was program director at the newly created Festival International de films de Montréal. De Hadeln lives in Switzerland.

De Hadeln was a member of the board of trustees of the Allianz Kulturstiftung between 2001 and 2003 .

In February 2018 the biography Moritz de Hadeln - Mister Filmfestival by the film critic Christian Junge was published . It was presented on February 21 at the Berlin International Film Festival.
