Stephen Trask (* 1967 ) is an American composer .

biography

After graduating from Williams School in 1984 , Stephen Trask studied music at Wesleyan University , where he graduated in 1989. He then moved to Brooklyn , New York City , where he tried to establish himself as a rock musician. Instead, he worked as a masseur, pizza delivery boy and other side jobs when he was not unemployed.

At the beginning of the 1990s he and the filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell developed the character of Hedwig , a transgender rock musician who grew up in East Berlin , for appearances in the New York drag bar Squeezebox . This resulted in the successful off-Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch , which won two Obie Awards , and the film version of the musical three years later , again with Mitchell in the title role. The film premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival , where it won the directors' and audience awards . In the same year the piece was awarded the Lambda Literary Award . At the Chlotrudis Awards 2002 Mitchell won the award for best actor. At the 2001 Berlin International Film Festival ( Berlinale ) the film was shown in the "PANORAMA" section and won the Teddy Award .

Since he made his debut as a composer for feature films with this film, Trask was able to establish himself as a film composer and wrote the music for films such as Station Agent and Plan B for Love . He also worked with the director Paul Weitz and composed for his directorial work Reine Chefsache , Midnight Circus - Welcome to the World of Vampires and My Wife, Our Children and I the music. For his work on Star Camp , he was nominated for Best Score at the 2003 Satellite Awards .
