Magic of Love (Original title: Feast of Love ) is a 2007 film drama directed by Robert Benton with Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear in the lead roles. The film is based on the novel The Feast Of Love (German book title Fest der Liebe ) published in 2000 by Charles Baxter .
action
Professor Harry Stevenson from Portland lies awake in the middle of the night and cannot sleep, he gets up and walks around town. When he arrives at the local sports field, he remembers what happened 18 months ago:
Stevenson is a regular at Jitters , Bradley Smith's coffee shop. At a softball game on the sports field, he meets Bradley and his wife Kathryn, to whom he has been married for over six years. After the game they go for a beer together and meet Jenny, a player on the opposing team. Bradley's wife Kathryn falls in love with Jenny, which Stevenson notices immediately; but Bradley ignores it and believes he can continue to have a happy marriage. Bradley gives her a dog on Kathryn's birthday, even though she hates dogs; besides, he can't tell the color of her eyes when she asks him about it. She decides to leave Bradley that evening and move in with Jenny.
Oscar, who works in Bradley's café, falls in love with Chloe, who asked for work in the bar and was spontaneously hired by Bradley. Bradley later meets real estate agent Diana in his café, with whom he falls in love. They begin a relationship although Diana is still having an affair with the married David Watson. Diana arranges a new house for Bradley to buy; later he notices that the house happens to be right next to Stevenson's. Stevenson tells Bradley that happy couples have moved into the house three times in a row and separated only a few weeks later, so Stevenson's wife believes the house is cursed.
Oscar, who previously lived with his father Bat, a violent alcoholic , wants to live with Chloe. In order to get money for their own apartment, they film themselves having sex and want to sell the video - but because they are too in love and their film is not "hard" enough, they hardly earn anything with it. When Chloe visits a fortune teller and asks about Oscar, she associates Oscar with death. Back home, the disturbed Chloe asks Oscar if he would like to marry her. Oscar agrees.
Professor Stevenson , who was on leave because of the death of his son Aaron, who died of a heroin overdose, blames himself for why he never noticed his son's drug addiction and was unable to prevent his son's death.
One day after David Watson's wife sees Diana wearing a shirt she gave David, she discovers their affair and the Watsons split up. Diana meets up with David again and also leaves her husband Bradley. Bradley later falls in love with the doctor Margit. With Margit, Bradley finally seems to have found the right woman and he even manages to maintain a friendly relationship with his ex-wives and their partners - Kathryn and Jenny as well as Diana and David.
At the wedding of Chloe and Oscar, Chloe is already pregnant. Six months later, Oscar dies of cardiac arrest - he had a congenital heart defect. Pregnant Chloe moves in with Stevenson and his wife, who now treat them like their own daughter.

Reviews
The Cinema editorial team gave a rating of 75% and said: “ Robert Benton (“ Kramer versus Kramer ”) sensitively connects the fates of different people who strive for love, closeness and security - and yet fail again and again. Conclusion: Great emotional turmoil in a dignified setting. "
"The nested, constructed, episodic series of relationships tells empathetically and visually quite revealing stories about friendship, sex and love, whereby he can build on a squad of excellent actors."
