Mémorable is a 2019 French animated short film directed by Bruno Collet .
action
Painter Louis and his wife Michelle are sitting at the dinner table when Michelle notices a change in her husband: he can't find the pepper shaker on the table, doesn't know anymore that his mother-in-law has died and later wants to eat a banana with her peel. Louis, on the other hand, sees his cell phone melting away and thinks he is in 1965. Because he forgets to feed the fish, they die. Some time later, Louis no longer recognizes his own reflection in the bathroom mirror. The supposed pistol that he presses to his temple is actually the hair dryer. When Louis eats with the whole family, the faces appear deformed and the bodies incomplete, which he accepts. Later he thinks Michelle is the cleaning lady. He begins to flirt with her, draws her with his own fingers and finally dances with her when, for him, she only consists of a few rough brushstrokes. During the dance it dissolves for him into many small dots that float away. Her laughter lingers in the room for a while until silence falls.
production
Mémorable is Bruno Collet's sixth animated short film and the first one in which he deals with Alzheimer's disease . The idea came to him through drawings by William Utermohlen , who repeatedly took self-portraits of himself in the course of his Alzheimer's disease, and the preoccupation with Peter Falk , who continued to draw with Alzheimer's for a long time. The film contains artistic homages to Vincent van Gogh and Alberto Giacometti ( L'homme au doigt , 1947). The film is mainly implemented in stop-motion , with the surface of the dolls made of latex foam. Individual scenes were animated in 3D on the computer.
The work on the film took about a year, with the set and puppet building, recording and post-production taking roughly the same amount of time. The production costs amounted to around 230,000 euros. The soundtrack comes from Nicolas Martin, who recorded it with his Miniature Ensemble Orchestra. The song Waiting for your Love sung in the film is also by Nicolas Martin; It is sung by Clarence Finck .
Mémorable had its premiere on June 11, 2019 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy and then ran in competition at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand and the Ottawa International Animation Festival, among others . The German premiere took place in October 2019 at the 21st International Animated Film Festival Wiesbaden.
Awards
At the Festival d'Animation Annecy, Mémorable won the Cristal d'Annecy , the audience award and the children's jury award in 2019 . The film was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2020 .
