Bruno Collet (* 1965 in Saint-Brieuc ) is a French animator and film director .

Life

Collet studied communication sciences and art at the Rennes School of Art and completed his studies in 1990 with the Diplôme National Supérieur d'Arts Plastiques. He initially worked as an assistant to a photographer and set designer for film and television before making his film debut in 2000 with a series of one-minute short animations under the title Avoir un bon copain . For his debut he mixed pixilation and computer animation . He animated his second film Le dos au mur , released in 2001, in stop-motion and stayed true to this genre for the next few years. Le dos au mur is about a metal shutter holder that reflects his life and the moment he once fell in love. The film won the 2011 Prix Jeune critique at the Semaine Internationale de la Critique des Festivals in Cannes . In his subsequent short animated films, Collet devoted himself several times to great film stars, such as Robert Mitchum ( Calypso Is Like So , 2003) and Bruce Lee ( The Little Dragon 2009). In his stop-motion short film Le jour de gloire… published in 2007, he tells the story of a soldier in World War I, and the rotoscopic short film Son Indochine also deals with war as a central motif.

Collet's greatest success to date was the stop-motion short animated film Mémorable , released in 2019 , in which Collet dealt with Alzheimer's disease . The film won the Cristal d'Annecy of the Festival d'Animation Annecy in 2019 and was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2020 .
