Joanna Natasegara is a director , screenwriter and producer of documentaries who was nominated for the Oscar in the category "Best Documentary" at the 2015 Academy Awards for the production of Virunga with director Orlando von Einsiedel . The film was also nominated in 2015 for a British Academy Film Award in the category “Best Documentary” .

Natasegara also created the documentary series The Price of Kings , in which she portrayed a number of political rulers, including Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres . Natasegara studied human rights at the London School of Economics and Political Science and founded Violet Films / Ultra Violet Consultancy , which acts as both a film production company and a consultancy on social and ethical issues.

The short documentary The White Helmets , in which she was involved as a producer, brought her, together with director Orlando von Einsiedel, an Oscar nomination in 2017 in the category “Best Documentary Short Film” . This time the duo won the award.
