Homböhl nature reserve

The Homböhl nature reserve with a size of 22.5  hectares is located north of the Lehmbach industrial area in Hallenberg . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis on September 15, 2004 with the Hallenberg landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG consists of the Homböhl hilltop with extensive grassland, partly poor pastures. There are numerous hedges in the area where the red- backed species breed , among other species .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland with its species inventory. To contribute to the preservation and development of communities and habitats of wild, partly endangered species, animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area was designated as a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. According to the NSG designation, the area was also designated in order to contribute to the safeguarding of the ecological network Natura 2000 of the European Union within the meaning of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive .
