Nature reserve in the valley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Im Tal with a size of 26.5  hectares is located north of Hesborn in the urban area of Hallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis on September 15, 2004 with the Hallenberg landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . The NSG begins directly on the northeastern edge of the village and on the sports field.

Area description

The NSG is extensive grassland or fallow grassland. Wet and poor pastures can be found in the grassland. The terrain of the NSG has a strong relief through several valleys. In addition to the grassland, there are also small remains of heather, field trees, hedges, small parcels of spruce and gorse bushes. Individual shrubs, groups of shrubs and individual trees can be found on the pastures. An orchard that has recently been planted is located in the NSG. Some of the fallow land in the protected area is heavily bushed. Sources of small streams lie on the slopes in the NSG. The meandering brook has steep banks and strips of wood on the banks. Several narrow, unpaved roads run through the area. In some places there are very wide seams on the paths. A narrow footpath runs in the area. There is also a barbecue area, a water treading basin, a small fenced fish pond and a weekend house in the reserve.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland and fallow land with their inventory of species. To contribute to the preservation and development of communities and habitats of wild, partly endangered species, animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area was designated as a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. According to the nature reserve designation, the area was also designated as a nature reserve in order to secure the ecological network Natura 2000 of the EU within the meaning of the Habitats Directive.
