Blockflur nature reserve on Steinschab

The nature reserve Blockflur am Steinschab with a size of 3.2  ha is located near Liesen in the urban area of Hallenberg ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis on September 15, 2004 with the Hallenberg landscape plan.

Geographical location

The NSG is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park on the Steinschab ( 646  m above sea  level ), 1.7 km west-southwest of Liesen . The NSG includes the small-scale summit region as well as parts of the high elevation from the western slope and the stables in the direction of the federal road 236 running west to south of the mountain in the valley of the Nuhne . The NSG spreads from the summit region of the mountain down to about 590  m above sea level. NHN off. It is enclosed by the nature reserve Hallenberger Waldlandschaft .

Area description

The NSG is the boulder corridor of the summit region and of the high altitudes of the Steinschab. An oak forest grows in the NSG, the trees of which are covered with lichen.

Protection purpose

The NSG should protect the forest with a species inventory and contribute to the maintenance and development of communities and habitats of wild, sometimes endangered species, animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area was designated as a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. According to the nature reserve designation, the area was also designated a nature reserve in order to contribute to the safeguarding of the EU's Natura 2000 ecological network within the meaning of the Habitats Directive.
