action

The film observes the French journalist Mélanie Gouby and several park rangers in the Virunga National Park who are trying to protect this oldest national park in Africa. The park is the last habitat of the endangered mountain gorillas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site . In the film, the ranger team consists primarily of the gorillas who are in charge of the gorillas and the Belgian conservationist Emmanuel de Merode , the head of the national park. The task of the rangers is to protect the world cultural heritage from armed poachers and militias.

The greatest threat to the park, however, is the efforts of the British oil company SOCO International to investigate oil deposits in the area of the national park.

In May 2012, a new armed conflict broke out when the rebel group M23 declared war on the government. This war poses a threat to the people in the area as well as to nature and animals in the national park.
