Peter Chernin (born May 29, 1951 in Harrison , New York ) is an American film producer , entrepreneur and CEO of his company The Chernin Group, founded in 2010.

Life

Peter Chernin was born in Harrison, Westchester County . He is of Jewish descent. Chernin received his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley . He is married and has three children.

From 1996 to 2009 he was Chief Operating Officer at News Corporation . Under his leadership, 20th Century Fox produced the two most successful films of all time, Titanic and Avatar . Chernin then founded his own company, The Chernin Group.

Since leaving the News Corporation, he has also been involved directly as a film producer for some works. He was responsible as a producer for the films Planet of the Apes: Prevolution , Taffe Girls , Planet of the Apes: Revolution , The Drop - Cash , Exodus: Gods and Kings and The Island of Special Children . At the 2017 Academy Awards , he and Donna Gigliotti , Jenno Topping , Pharrell Williams and Theodore Melfi received a nomination in the category of best film for the film Hidden Figures - Unrecognized Heroines , but the award went to the competition.
