action

In the border region between Tunisia and Algeria : In a Tunisian village, the children play football on a dusty field, and the question of whether the ball is out of the way often leads to arguments. Mohamed and his little brother Abdallah also quarrel about football, Mohamed is a fan of Messi , while Abdallah adores the Algerian footballer Riyad Mahrez . Both brothers are on a moped and when Abdallah wants to leave, he takes a detour up a hill to leave the Algerian side and thus the country of his idol. He sees a donkey wearing headphones. Curiously, he takes him to the Tunisian side to his brother.

Some distance away on the Algerian side, Salim and Ali are looking for that donkey. He is trained to cross the border unnoticed as a pack animal and courier and to come to his master Salim when he hears Adele's Someone Like You . The animal has now been undetectable for two days. It turns out that Salim's unmusical henchman Ali didn't put Adèle on the player for the animal, but rather a song by Cheik Hadèl.

Mohamed discovers that the donkey's bags are filled with packets full of heroin . He pretends to his little brother that the white powder is detergent and loads the bags onto his scooter trailer. The brothers secretly bring the booty home, where Mohamed hides it under his bed. The next day he visits a friend to whom he shows a small bag full of heroin. He would buy the material from him. When Mohamed wanted to show him all of the booty, the bag with the packages disappeared. Abdallah carried them to the football field to show his friends the “detergent”. When Mohamed comes to the soccer field shortly afterwards, Abdallah happily tells him that they have taken the powder for marking lines on the field, so that in future the quarrels about a line cut will come to an end. Mohamed remains stunned.

production

After Tempus fugit (2001), Nefta Football Club was the second short film directed by Yves Piat. In the story, Piat dealt with an incident from his childhood when he and a friend found drugs at an abandoned campsite and later sunk them in a river out of perplexity. The shooting took place in Tozeur and Nefta as the originally planned work in and around Zagora in Morocco proved to be too expensive. The film was shot within six days; both child actors were in front of the camera for the first time.

Nefta Football Club had its premiere on October 24, 2018 as part of the Cinéma Méditerranéen Montpellier Festival (Cinemed) in Montpellier . In 2019 the film was shown at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand and the Chicago International Film Festival, among others . In Germany, the film was shown for the first time in spring 2019 at the 11mm - 16th International Football Film Festival Berlin.
