Lyes Salem

Lyes Salem (born July 7, 1973 in Algiers , Algeria ) is a Franco- Algerian actor and film director .

Life

Salem was born in Algiers in early summer 1973 to an Algerian father and a French mother. After his parents separated in 1989, Salem grew up in France. He studied theater, television and film at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD) in Paris until 1998 and completed an acting training at the Paris École du Théâtre National de Chaillot . He then first played theater. In the mid-1990s he came to film, where he was seen in feature films, television and short films.

He also worked as an assistant director for the short film Tatoo , in which he took on a role. His first directorial work was the short film Jean Farès in 2001 . In 2005 Salem won a César in the Best Short Film category for the short film Cousines . Salem was the first to direct feature films at Masqueraden , where he also took on the lead role. For the film about an Algerian gardener who wants to get his sister, who is suffering from narcolepsy, under the hood, Salem received a César nomination in the category Best First Work in 2009 . In his second feature film, the political drama L'Oranais, about the development of society after Algerian independence, Salem took on a leading role again.
