Walter Mirisch

Walter M. Mirisch (born November 8, 1921 in New York City , New York ) is an American film producer .

Life

Walter Mirisch is one of the most successful American film producers. He received numerous awards for his productions and produced his first film in 1947. Until the 1950s , he mainly produced B-movies for the film studio Monogram Pictures . He had his breakthrough as a producer in 1960 with the noble western The glorious seven . In 1962 he received his first Oscar for the production of West Side Story . His company, Mirisch Corporation, was one of the most successful independent film companies in the United States , producing films like Some Like It Hot and The Sound of Music . The production company had a distribution contract with United Artists . After he had largely withdrawn from film production since the 1990s, he was back in 2016 as producer for Antoine Fuqua's remake of the classic The Magnificent Seven .

His son Lawrence Mirisch is the founder of the Mirisch Agency , which strives for filmmakers behind the camera. Film editors in particular are represented by the agency.
